Forget the partridge and the pear trees, here’s the real 12 Days of Christmas…
Who doesn’t love a festive film? Whether it’s the tension of saving Christmas or the comedy of a family trying to put up the best decorations for the holidays, we’ve all got our favourites. If you’re looking for what festive favourite to watch this year, here’s the 12 best ones to stream.
Arthur Christmas (U) Available on Netflix
Okay so I may be a little biased as I do actually look like Arthur Christmas (jumpers n’all) but this jolly festive tale of protecting the spirit of Christmas really is an underrated Christmas classic.
The Grinch (U) Available on Netflix
This may not be the Jim Carrey comedy but the Benedict Cumberbatch voiced effort is a pretty stellar effort of Dr Suess’ classic tale. Enjoy this animated tale of the grumpy Grinch who threatens to destroy Whoville and Christmas.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (12A) Available on Amazon Prime
Why not spend some holiday time with the Griswolds? As with all the National Lampoon escapades, expect from chaos and fun with Chevy Chase leading the way.
Klaus (PG) Available on Netflix
This one really snuck out of nowhere in 2019 and ended up becoming nominated for an Oscar. A classic tale about a grumpy postman played by Jason Schwartzman who meets an old toymaker called Klaus. It’ll undoubtedly warm your heart.
Deck the Halls (PG) Available on Amazon Prime
Is it just me who compares their Christmas lights to their neighbours? You can’t help but be competitive. Well stick in Danny DeVito vs. Matthew Broderick for a battle of the Christmas lights and the laughs just keep on coming.
The Christmas Chronicles (PG) Available on Netflix
Kurt Russell might just be the Santa Claus we always needed. This cool tale combines the Christmas family spirit with humour and sass. There’s a newly released sequel but I’d maybe just skip that for now. It’s not a scratch on the original.
The Night Before (15) Available on Amazon Prime
Are you more about enjoying the drinks at Christmas than the main event itself? Well join Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie as three life long friends trying to find the Holy Grail of Christmas parties.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (PG) Available on Netflix
Want something a little more out of this world? Check out this new musical starring Forest Whitaker, Keegan Michael-Peele and Ricky Martin. Yes, THAT Ricky Martin. It’s the Director’s third Christmas effort so let’s hope third time’s a charm.
Christmas with the Kranks (PG) Available on Amazon Prime & Netflix
We’ve all felt the mad Christmas rush haven’t we? The countdown ticking and all those presents you haven’t got yet. Feed that into family preparations headed by the hilarious Tim Allen and you’ve got some festive comedy to enjoy with a warm mince pie.
Nativity! (U) Available on Netflix
Pantos are always the done thing for some people at Christmas – it’s tradition. But they don’t always go smoothly. Sit back and enjoy Martin Freeman attempting to keep up the facade of Hollywood attending a primary school panto.
Four Christmases (12) Available on Amazon Prime
Want your comedy with a pinch of Vince Vaughn. Add in Reese Witherspoon and the predicament of having to travel to four different Christmases due to divorce and you’re bound to get some hilarity.
Holidate (15) Available on Netflix
Fancy a bit of love this Christmas? Sloane’s fed up with being alone at Christmas so agrees to spend agrees with a stranger to be each other’s date. But only in a platonic way. Yeah right, sparks always fly in the festive season so enjoy this sweet rom-com starring the hilarious Emma Roberts at the seasoned single.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this streaming session of your festive favourites. Let us know in the comments if there’s any we’ve missed or that you’d recommend. We’d love to hear from you.
