Bring on the Bolly. The girls have still got it! Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie has finally been released and sweetie darling it’s a riot.
Edina (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy (Joanna Lumley) are still living the high life; shopping, drinking and clubbing until they drop. The hapless duo are part of the London elite, socialising with the who’s-who of the celebrity world at London’s trendiest hotspots.
But as we all know Edina always manages to spoil her successes, it’s inevitable, and this time she can’t talk her way out of it…
The good times come to an end when disaster-magnet Edina accidently knocks supermodel Kate Moss into the Thames at a glitzy fashion launch party. The fashion world goes into sheer panic, then anger.
Edina and her reprobate BFF become the subject of a media storm and decide to flee the country to escape the paparazzi. Penniless, but not less glamourous the best friends head to the home of the super-rich, the French Riviera. They plan to marry an old millionaire, wait for him to pop his clogs and become super-rich. What could possibly go wrong?
Unlike Zoolander 2, this movie doesn’t waste too much time on supporting players and puts the spotlight firmly on the dastardly duo. Edina is still as stupid as ever and Patsy just as fabulous. I’m happy to report that their fizzing chemistry hasn’t diminished whatsoever. Saunders’ script is filled with plenty of delightfully mean zingers.
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is crass, garish and flamboyant, but then that’s just like Edina and Patsy. It’s a delight to see the two friends reunited, behaving badly, downing Bolly with fags in their hands and drugs in their hair. They may be utter trainwrecks, but we wouldn’t have them any other way.
