Zoolander 2 (12A)

Someone is killing off beautiful celebrities one by one, and there’s only one really, really, ridiculously good looking person who can stop them.

After The Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too collapsed into the sea, killing his wife Matilda in the process, the world-famous model became a recluse. Soon after the world realised how stupid Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) really was and his beloved son was taken away from him.

Sweet Hansel (Owen Wilson) was also hurt in the accident and now bears a hideous scar to remind him of that fateful day. Knowing that he may never work again Hansel seeks meaning in his daily orgies. But when all the members of his orgy get pregnant, even Kiefer Sutherland, he’s ready to scarper.

So it’s perfect timing when Billy Zane turns up and asks the duo to walk the catwalk at Alexanya Atoz’s (Kristen Wiig) House of Atoz fashion show in Rome. But it’s been fifteen years since Derek Zoolander aka the world’s greatest male fashion model stopped the assassination of the Malaysian Prime Minister with just one look. Can Derek find his spark once again?

The trip brings the two dumb dumbs together again. Both are on a mission; Derek to win back his son and Hansel to find and finally meet his ‘beat cop’ father.

But as always fashion comes first and they need to prepare for the House of Atoz fashion show. Delighted to be back with the beautiful people, Derek and Hansel soon find that all roads lead to their old foe, Mugatu (Will Ferrell).

All of the gorgeous murder victims were found sporting Derek’s iconic Blue Steel look. So when Derek and Hansel rock up in Rome Interpol Fashion Division agent Valentina (Penelope Cruz) recruits the unlikely heroes to go undercover in the world of high fashion.

Derek is won over by Valentina’s good looks and big rack. In return for their help infiltrating the couture clique she promises to reunite the world-famous model with his son. Derek and Hansel must stop the conspiracy to kill the world’s most beautiful people before it’s too late.

Fans of the 2001 comedy satire can breathe a sigh of relief because Zoolander 2 has all the magic of the original. Stiller knows exactly which buttons to press and when to execute them. Unlike movies like Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Hangover 2 and 3, Zoolander 2 has managed to capture everything that made the original great and then make it relevant to the present day.

There has been an awful lot of controversy around the depiction of ‘All’ played by Benedict Cumberbatch, described as neither male nor female. At the end of the day this is a satirical movie. It isn’t meant to be taken seriously. The point of this movie is to poke fun at modern culture, like how Justin Bieber irritates the shit out of most people, the rise of the selfie and the constant need to be different, whilst in reality behaving like everyone else.

Zoolander 2 is a triumph. It’s fantastic to see the dim-witted duo back together again. The one-liners alone are worth the ticket price.
