Everyone is guilty of going to see a movie they know is going to be a bit naff but will produce the laughs. But sometimes the movie turns out to be just plain terrible. Here’s my 5 worst movies of 2014 so far.
1. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Like a cheap TV dinner this movie has all the ingredients to be a real treat, but in the end it just leaves you yearning for the real thing.
2. Divergent
If you’re a sucker for the books or lazy romance-action flicks then Divergent is for you, otherwise I would say give it a miss. It will just remind you of the perils of your teenage years and all the dreadful angst that ensued.
3. Pompeii
I don’t understand how an action movie about the destruction of an entire city and its inhabitants can be so dull. Even good old John Snow couldn’t save the day. Pompeii is a cardboard cut-out of an action movie. It looks nice, it seems fit for purpose but ultimately it isn’t as good as the real thing.
4. Transcendence
This movie tries so hard to be super cool that it forgets to make sense. It’s overly daft. In the end it’s just as pretentious and vacuous and as you think it would be.
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
I wasn’t a fan of the first Amazing Spider-Man movie when it came out in two years ago. Director Marc Webb’s initial take on Marvel Comics’ renowned superhero didn’t justify its existence as a reboot. It unnecessarily retold an origin story. You don’t need Spidey senses to realise that this reboot is a disaster, you just need common sense.
